In this meeting, we will discuss excerpts from Claudia Gorbman’s “Unheard Melodies” and a selection of her recent articles, including “Between Freedom and Confinement:
Music in The World (2004)”, Music in The Piano“, and “Musical Worlds of the Millennial Western: Dead Man and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.”

Claudia Gorbman is Professor of Film Studies in the Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences program at UW Tacoma. She is the author of Unheard Melodies: Narrative Film Music (1987); she has translated five books including four by the French critic Michel Chion (most recently the prizewinning Film, A Sound Art, 2009); and she has published more than sixty articles or chapters, largely on film sound and film music. With John Richardson, she is co-editor of the Oxford Handbook of New Audiovisual Aesthetics (2012).
